Our trainers are very experienced in working with older adults, whom have learning and physical disabilities as well as mental illnesses. A specific trainer will tailor and deliver the exercise workshops to suit your residents and the individual’s physical ability. Sessions can take place in the care home environment, as the residents will feel comfortable and familiar with their surroundings.
The aim of every session is to focus on every individuals well-being, improve general movement, reduce stiffness and attending to suffering joints and partly moving limbs, while keeping a fun and enjoyable atmosphere for all.
The chair-based workshops can be done as a group or as individual sessions.
Group Sessions
This is a fantastic way to focus on a large number of residents all at one time that would benefit from tailored exercise and socialising with others and the trainer. The activities that would take part in a group session are:
- Mobilisation – small gentle movements that loosen the joints, which makes it easier to perform movements.
- Stretching – this helps to lengthen the muscles to reduces stiffness and the tight like feeling in thelimbs.
- Band work – exercise bands are brilliant for all levels and ages and are a great way to get the body moving, keeping the exercise in a chair we can target all muscle groups. Especially the hands and feet which are needed for everyday tasks therefore by using the bands we can increase range of movement and reduces stiffness, to make daily tasks easier for individuals.
- Musical fun – this increases the social element and adds more fun to sessions. The whole group can have a sing song together; play small musical instruments such as a triangle, tambourine and shaker. This also gives the residents the chance to add their own element to the sessions for example by picking their favourite song to sing.
- Memory games – these are fun games aimed to work on memory, using coloured cards, working with numbers and also moment patterns. We can insure you theses type of games are not challenging. They are fun, enjoyable and are added to the actual exercise itself. For example a clapping game.
Individual Sessions (1on1)
Ideal for residents whom are bed boned or have very little movement, also those who suffer from a mental illness or injuries. It would also be suitable for those that need a little bit of extra time spent with them and would benefit from a trainer to focus on their needs.
The sessions can take place in resident’s bedroom if necessary. At Fit 4 Future we feel it is important to keep the individuals comfortable at all times, therefore the trainers can deliver the exercise sessions in the lounge, in their wheelchair and bed for those bedridden to insure the resident is happy.
Activities for 1 on 1 sessions would be aimed at focusing on:
- Spending more time on joint work to increase the individual’s range of movement.
- Stretching – lengthening the muscles to aid more movement without pain and stiffness.
- Working together both the trainer and resident to get the best from the session and to benefit their needs.
Also massage can be used to home in on particular stiff muscles or body parts such as limbs that don’t work as well as they use to or even not at all. This will help reduces pain and stiffness in the muscles. Massage and the other exercise could potentially get those limbs back in action.
Note; no oils are used and clothing is not removed. The massage can be done on top of all clothing. Gentle soft movements are performed.
The exercise sessions are extremely beneficial to all. If you are interested in group sessions or 1 on 1 individual training please contact us
This exercise class is fantastic for all the residents. This is not just an exercise class, it brings us all together to have fun and keep fit, we enjoy every minute. It’s truly amazing to see the whole class participating in the exercises, as some of these people have severe mobility problems.
